Isaac Cowell was born on April 22, 1756, in Hunterdon County, (Trenton) New Jersey. He served as a private in Capt. Nathan Luse's Company of the Western Regiment of the Morris Co., NJ Militia during 1776-1779. He was in the Battle of Long Island, Aug. 27, 1776; Monmouth on Jun. 28, 1778, and then moved to Bedford Co. PA in 1781, where he served in the Pennsylvania Militia. After that Isaac moved to Greene Co. about 1808 and died there in 1841. His will was probated Nov. 11, 1841 (Greene Co. Estate No. 1008). He drew a New Jersey pension as late as 1840.

Isaac had a daughter, Sarah, who was born about 1789. Sarah married Abner Wharton in Green County, Pennsylvania. This was Abner’s second wife. Abner’s first wife was Sarah’s sister Mary. My lineage is from Abner and Sarah Cowell Wharton. Isaac Cowell is my 4th great grandfather. Also of interest is Joseph Wharton, who founded the Wharton School of Business and who was a notable entrepreneur, is my first cousin six times removed.
